Merli slowed down by mechanical issues at the Prealpi rally
Christian Merli was racing at the 22nd edition of the Prealpi Master Show rally at Sernaglia della Battaglia in Treviso province in northeastern Italy, with Denis Pozzo in charge of the pacenotes.
Brake problems made it an unfortunate debut in the Skoda Fabia Evo. It was the second appointment of the Raceday Rally Terra, with 43 cars in the R5 class. The 8.500 km long “Master Show” special stage was done four times.
Christian’s comments
„We did have a good time, but it was a difficult day. In the first special stage we had a spin, and in the second one we found ourselves unable to brake at the first sharp turn, because a pipe in the brake system had broken. We finished the special stage in last place. We then fixed the damage, and in the third run we fought hard and took 13th place among the 43 cars in R5. In the overall classification we improved from 62nd to 35th place. That’s what racing is like, and I still got to return to my great passion at the end of the season. After all, I hadn’t done a rally for two years.”
